Advice For Those Who Are Transitioning Into Adulthood
When you are in your 20s, you can feel this daunting pressure to have your life together. You feel like you should be completely independent, have a good job, and have your emotions in check. You are now an adult, and you should act like one.
But there’s no shame in asking for help. There’s no shame in taking some time to get your mind right. There’s no shame in moving back home with your parents while you get your feet on the ground.
If you would have asked me 2 years ago what my life would look like now, I would have said that I would be living in a city somewhere by now, working at a startup, and living independently. But that didn’t happen.
For the last 9 months, I’ve been living at home again. I’ve been taking time to save up money, travel, and work on my design. I’ve been slowly teaching myself more soft skills while studying things I’m interested in online.
I remember feeling so anxious that I didn’t have an internship lined up after I finished Uncollege. But if I had an internship, I don’t think I would have ever fallen in love with UX design the way I did when I was in Toronto.
Everything happens for a reason, and patience is very important. So don’t worry, take your life step by step. You don’t need to have it all together as soon as you graduate or move out, eventually, it will all fall into place the way it needs to be.
