PenFed’s Design System
PenFed is a not-for-profit credit union that was founded in 1935. The majority of their members have an older demographic and are tied to the military, but the marketing and digital team’s most pressing goals are to expand to a younger market that includes millennials and even zoomers. In order to do so, my team and I have made monumental improvements to their design system to promote consistency, ADA compliance, mobile usability, and responsiveness. My work at PenFed was mostly focused on customizing SalesForce Lightning Components for a mobile-first implementation and creating standards for their applications and mobile app.
SalesForce Components
Although the SalesForce Lightning Components system supplies an extensive foundation for design implementation, a majority of the components do not meet industry standards for usability and accessibility. The customizations I suggested include making a base body text size of 16px, changing colors to follow ADA contrast standards, and finding solutions for components that were too small to select on mobile.
